The Maine Heritage Policy Center has called on Maine Attorney General Janet Mills to file a lawsuit against the federal Department of Health and Human Services because of an unconstitutional mandate in the president's health care overhaul.  The mandate included in the overhaul, signed into law yesterday, requires a majority of Maine people to purchase health insurance for themselves and their dependents by December 31, 2013.

In a letter sent to Attorney General Mills, David Crocker, director of the Center for Constitutional Government at The Maine Heritage Policy Center, argued that the U.S. Congress does not have the authority under the Commerce Clause in the U.S. Constitution to impose such a mandate included in the so-called Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
