FALMOUTH- Yesterday, a nationally-acclaimed government transparency activist, Tom Fitton, joined The Maine Heritage Policy Center for an educational luncheon in Falmouth.

Since 1998, Mr. Fitton has led Judicial Watch, which has been named one of Washington, D.C.’s top ten most effective government watchdog organizations.

“We’ve done a pretty good job of figuring out what the government is up to, because nobody else in Washington is terribly interested. There’ usually part of the problem. Congress is terrible at government oversight, the federal agencies don’t want to tell you what they are up to, and of course the president doesn’t think he’s subject to any law, let alone the United States Constitution.

Under his leadership, Judicial Watch exposed the IRS’s practice of targeting and harassing conservative organizations. They also uncovered the Hillary Clinton email scandal and were granted a motion for discovery into whether the State Department and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton deliberately thwarted the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) for six years, among other major victories.

For nearly two decades, Judicial Watch, under Mr. Fitton’s leadership, has been leading the fight in Washington, D.C. for government accountability and transparency.
