Open Position: MHPC Director of Communications

Reporting to the chief executive officer, the director of communications will set and guide the strategy for all communications, websites, public relations, and collateral to consistently articulate The Maine Heritage Policy Center’s mission. This highly skilled individual will oversee internal and external communication strategies and related activities, and will work very closely with the CEO and the director of operations.


  • Manage all aspects of media relations
  • Develop a comprehensive annual communications plan that will enhance the organization’s image and position in the related public policy debate and among the general public while facilitating internal and external communications
  • Ensure articulation of desired image and position and assure consistent communication of that image and position, both internally and externally
  • Oversee MHPC website and manage content
  • Put communication vehicles in place to create momentum and test the effectiveness of communication activities
  • Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action – Facebook, Twitter, Quora
  • Coordinate all media interviews and media information requests
  • Coordinate all speaking requests for policy experts
  • Design and report metrics to quantify the organization’s impact – monthly
  • Draft and release all press releases, opinion editorials, and media tool kits
  • Manage the design, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, policy reports, testimony, newsletters, and brochures
  • Collaborate with editor of The Maine Wire to ensure messaging is consistent with projects and programs for The Maine Heritage Policy Center


Knowledge of WordPress, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere), Publisher, and email marketing platforms preferred.
