Federal Dependency in Maine

The chart below shows the amount of federal spending in Maine as a percent of personal income between 1981 and 2008.  Since 1981, Maine’s dependency on federal spending is roughly the same today as it was then, albeit at a high level with a ratio of $1 federal dollar for every $4 dollars of personal income.  Maine’s federal dependency is above the national average and completely on the opposite ends of the spectrum when compared to neighboring New Hampshire.  Overall, Maine ranks as the 19th most dependent state in the country for 2008.
