HELP RESTORE MAINE’S WORKFORCE AND END THE COVID-19 VACCINE MANDATE ON HEALTHCARE WORKERS

During the pandemic, Governor Janet Mills’ administration forced healthcare workers to get vaccinated for COVID-19. The administration said the requirement would prevent transmission in healthcare settings, saving patients and workers alike.

Today, we know this is false. The best data available show COVID-19 vaccination does not prevent transmission. Thus, there is no legitimate public health rationale for keeping the requirement in place.

As a result of Governor Mills’ decision, hundreds of healthcare workers needlessly lost their jobs, upending their lives and livelihoods. It’s time to right this wrong for Maine’s healthcare workforce and allow them to resume employment in their old jobs. Mainers needs these professionals back in the workforce for our own health and safety.

LD 172, sponsored by Rep. David Boyer of Poland, would solve the problem. LD 172 as amended would eliminate the mandate imposed by the governor during the pandemic and allow fired healthcare professionals to return to work, restoring Maine’s healthcare workforce to full capacity.
