Screening of ‘The Pursuit’ June 27 at
the University of New England’s Portland Campus
PORTLAND – The Maine Heritage Policy Center, in partnership with the University of New England Center for Global Humanities, is hosting a screening of “The Pursuit” on June 27 at 6 p.m. in the WCHP Lecture Hall of the Parker Pavilion at the University of New England’s Portland campus. “The Pursuit” is a documentary featuring Dr. Arthur Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute, that explores how two billion people have been lifted out of abject poverty in the last 50 years.
In the film, Brooks travels the globe in search of an answer to the following question: How can we lift up the world, starting with those at the margins of society?
Brooks’ journey takes him through the chaotic streets of Mumbai, a town in Kentucky left behind by the global economy, a homeless shelter in New York, a street protest in Barcelona and a Himalayan Buddhist monastery. Along the way, Brooks discovers the secrets not only to material progress for the least fortunate, but also true and lasting happiness for all.
The Center for Global Humanities at the University of New England is a public forum that offers lectures by world renowned scholars to help our community better understand the challenges besetting our civilization and outline new solutions for nations and peoples to live together without prejudice. All events, including receptions, are free and open to the public.
