In an ironic coincidence, the Wall Street Journal editorialized today about the growing popularity of school choice options in Florida, just a we released a new report outlining how existing school choice opportunities are under threat here in Maine.
The Wall St. Journal editorial relates how Democrats in Florida, who have traditionally opposed school choice out of loyalty to the teachers unions, are starting to realize the popularity of such programs. More Democrats voted to expand Florida’s Corporate Tax Credit Scholarship Program than voted for the program itself in 2001.
Yet here in Maine, which already offers school choice options to thousands of Maine students, school choice is under siege. In a report we released this morning, we identified a number of school districts that appear on the verge of limiting or eliminating school choice options as part of the district reorganization effort.
Good to know Maine is leading the way as always…
