Maine is facing one of the worst housing crises in the country, and policymakers throughout the state haven’t been able to fix the problem. Policy Analyst, Harris Van Pate, along with Professor James Siodla from Colby College, produced a report answering the question of what policymakers should be doing to solve the state’s housing crisis.

While much of the country faces a housing shortage, Maine has it worse than most states. What makes this situation more troubling is that many solutions the Maine Legislature and cities are pursuing make the problem worse, not better.

Please join Maine Policy Institute on Thursday, May 1 at DiMillo’s On the Water in Portland to learn about what local and state leaders can do to increase the availability and affordability of housing in Maine. Harris Van Pate and Director of Legislative Affairs, Jacob Posik, will explain the report’s findings, show what other states and cities nationwide have done to fix the problem, and chart the best path forward for Maine.
