Remember earlier this year when Maine had to consider adopting California-style electric vehicle mandates? That issue was forced on our state because of an obscure law that allows citizens to collect a measly 150 signatures to compel a state agency to consider a rule change.

Maine Policy thinks this law is dumb, outdated, and the barrier to entry of just 150 signatures is far too low to have the executive branch consider – and potentially adopt – far-reaching regulations.

To illustrate to Maine state government just how goofy this law is – and to hopefully compel lawmakers to get rid of it altogether – we cordially invite you to our Petition Party Luncheon.

Maine Policy has devised a number of serious, deregulatory proposals – in addition to some unserious, humorous ones – that we want to submit to state government. In order to do that, we need to collect 150 signatures from registered Maine voters like you.

Join us on Thursday, October 17 at DiMillo’s in Portland to learn about how the regulatory petition process works, why it needs to go, and how Maine Policy plans to do just that by overwhelming the executive branch with our flurry of proposals.

Policy analyst, Harris Van Pate, and director of legislative affairs, Jacob Posik, will give a presentation on the regulatory petition process and explain in greater detail the specific proposals Maine Policy is advancing.
