Help Eliminate Vehicle Inspections in Maine!

Lawmakers on the Transportation Committee are considering LD 1242, a bill that would repeal the inspection requirement for noncommercial passenger vehicles. Mainers should be freed of this annual burden since the data is clear that inspections do not reduce automobile accidents, deaths, or result in safer roadways. Use the form below to contact Transportation Committee members in support of LD 1242.

Supporters of inspections claim that Maine’s harsh winters and salty roads accelerate vehicle deterioration, which is why an inspection requirement is necessary. But winter weather conditions haven’t stopped Alaska, Connecticut, Minnesota, North Dakota, or Utah—which receive an average of nearly 50 inches of snow a year—from repealing their inspection programs. It’s time for Maine to follow suit.
