This week, Senator Susan Collins and Democratic challenger Troy Jackson squared off in their first debate. Expectations were high for both, and both candidates had a specific job to do if they wanted to come out on top. On today’s podcast, we review what we saw at the debate, grade what we heard on many issues, and we tackle an interesting question: how can someone who served in state government for twenty years not know how Medicaid works?

In addition, we touch on another race that is flying under the radar this year: the Cumberland County District Attorney’s race. Incumbent Jackie Sartoris is facing off against former District Attorney Stephanie Anderson, and they were featured in multiple public debates this year. Ordinarily this kind of race doesn’t attract much attention, but with the renewed focus on crime, drug use, and quality of life issues impacting Portland and greater Cumberland County, it has taken on an unusually important role in this year’s election cycle.

We also talk briefly about Zohran Mamdani’s recent podcast appearance where he described what he believed socialism represented to him, and this time it wasn’t the “warmth of collectivism.” We also react to another media freakout over a statement by the president, and much more.
