On this episode of the Pine Tree Pulse, we deal with the nuts and bolts of Governor Janet Mills’ proposal to send out $300 checks to Mainers.

It is an obvious vote-buying scheme meant to boost her U.S. Senate campaign, but this week we learned that her intention is to raid the Rainy Day Fund to pay for it, and the total bill for her scheme is absolutely astounding.

We also get into the politics of that Senate race, with a new poll showing Collins leading both Mills and Platner. The poll was associated with Collins and only showed a one point lead, but it gives us an opportunity to ask what we believe is or is not really going on in this race.

The Epstein Files have also dropped, and the name of a prominent Mainer — former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell — is throughout the files. This has already caused a disassociation between him and several organizations, including The Mitchell Institute. We discuss how this impacts his legacy, and we also briefly discuss the mention of Janet Mills in the files as well.

Finally we talk about the massive layoffs at the Washington Post, and ask what duty (if any) a wealthy media mogul like Jeff Bezos has to prop up a failing business.

This and more on this week’s edition of the Pine Tree Pulse.
