Take the Power Back!

Governor Mills first declared an emergency in response to the coronavirus pandemic on March 15, 2020. Since that time, the governor has unilaterally controlled the state’s virus response with no input from the people of Maine or their elected representatives. This isn’t government, it is oppression, and it can never be allowed to happen again.

Emergency power exists to allow the chief executive to respond immediately to an imminent threat. It doesn’t exist to allow one person to control an entire state government for one year or more. This is antithetical to the state and U.S. Constitutions, co-equal branches of government and the separation of powers, all of which have been cornerstones in our beloved Republic for more than 200 years.
